Junior John Murphy took the puck down the left side during the closing seconds of a Crimson power-play and fired a pass off to Weisbrod, who was by the right post. The sophomore tipped it in, and Harvard led, 4-1, with 1:13 to play in the second stanza.
Lynah was quiet. No more newspapapers were thrown. But fish were flying.
Despite warnings from the officials, the Cornell fans threw some underwater creatures at Roy during a Harvard time-out. The act earned the Big Red a bench penalty for delay of game at 8:41 of the third period.
The culprits didn't feel guilty for very long, however. Karl Williams netted a short-handed goal less than two minutes later to narrow the Harvard gap to two goals.
The score was Cornell's only special teams success of the game, as Harvard killed off all eight of its penalties to leave the Big Red out in the cold on the power play.
"The key was that we killed off all those penalties," Cleary said. "We had a rash of penalties in the second period, and that could have hurt us."
When Harvard didn't kill penalties, it killed the crowd instead. The Lynah Mob, notorious for being Cornell's sixth man, spent most of the night in the penalty box.
"You have to beat the team and the crowd when you play here," Vukonich said. "We went out and played our game. And that took both of them out of it."
But even when the Crimson had silenced Lynah, it didn't stop taking precautions.
"I was kind of looking over my shoulder to see if something was about to fly from the stands," MacDonald said.
