The Scouting Report

HARVARD

Bruce Jacob was perfect last week with a pair of crucial field goals. To date, he has also converted eight extra points. Alan Hall, who punted nine time against Northeastern, has averaged only 32.9 yards per punt. BUCKNELL

Quarterback

In Bucknell's first three games, Bison QB Jim Given chalked up some impressive numbers, completing 31 of 57 passes for 484 yards, but only two touchdowns. He is the Colonial League's fourth-rated passer. Given also rushed for 82 yards, scoring four times. He's a pro-style passer, sticking to the pocket.

Running Backs

When the Bison run, the ball usually falls into the hands of freshman tailback Dan Scocca. The Colonial League Rookie of the Week tallied 82 yards on 20 carries in Bucknell's 32-24 victory over Penn. Scocca's backfield mate, freshman fullback Craig Cavlovic (15 attempts, 53 yards), provides Bucknell with good power yardage.

Receivers

Bucknell likes the long pass. Both TE Scott Lillis (eight receptions, 182 yards) and freshman WR Michael Guerrini (six, 147, 2 TDs) average over 20 yards per catch. Scocca, who leads the Bisons with 9 receptions, provides Given with a successful screen-pass option.

Offensive Line

Although the line--which averages around 250 lbs. per man--has had success opening up holes for Scocca, it has also had problems protecting Given. In three games, the Bucknell signalcaller was sacked for a total of 77 yards.

Defensive Line

Three seniors--Bill Levine, Walter Reese and Harry Buell--anchor Bucknell's 3-4 defense. Levine, who blocked a punt and caused a safety in last week's game, has 20 tackles and leads the team in sacks (three). Nose Tackle Reese has recorded 25 tackles.

Linebackers

Led by inside linebackers Andy Henry (32 tackles) and Greg Schiano (28), Bucknell has a strong and experienced core of linebackers.

Secondary

The Bison have allowed a substatial amount of passing yards (581), but have also picked off five passes. Cornerbacks John Carey and Robert Hawkins have helped give Bucknell consistent coverage throughout the season.

Kicking Game

Placekicker Steve Barimo (18 points) has been perfect both in field goals and extra points. His longest field goal was a 42-yarder. Freshman punter Yancy Molnar has posted a strong 37.2 average per punt.
