Hinz Lifts Harvard, 42-3 Crimson in League Lead

Following a short Dartmouth punt, the Crimson took over at its own 16, with 11:15 left in the quarter.

On 2nd-and-10, Yohe dropped back, but his receivers were covered downfield, and Yohe was smothered by Matt Walko for a 10-yard loss. Another Yohe pass fell incomplete, and the Crimson had to punt.

After a short return, the Big Green took command at the Harvard 46. A handoff up the middle was stooped by Harvard Captain Kevin Dulsky and his mates. Rorke took to the air on second-and-11, finding Anderson on the right for a seven-yard reception. Rorke bobbled the ensuing snap and Harvard lineman Rich Mau jumped on the ball, giving Harvard possession on the 38 with eight minutes left in the quarter.

On second down and long, Yohe found Tony Hinz across the middle for an eight-yard gain, setting up 3rd-and-three. A Yohe bomb fell out of reach and Hall was called on to punt again. Dartmouth took over at its own 13 with 6:40 left. Two running plays up the middle went for seven yards, giving Rorke and crew 3rd-and-three. Rorke gave the Green a first down by hitting Chris Keck, a hefty tight-end, over the middle.

On 3rd-and-eight in the next series, Rorke lined up in the shotgun and fired an interception into the hands of Crimson cornerback Frank Caprio, who took the ball at the 40 and raced to the 6 yard line.

The Crimson was called for illegal use of hands, so Yohe and company had to take over at the 11 with 4:26 left in the quarter.

A Hinz run was stopped for no gain on 1st-and-10. Yohe rolled right and fired a pass to Hinz, who bobbled the ball and watched helplessly as it fell to the ground. On the next play, Yohe scrambled right, scanning the field, before finding a wide open Brian Barringer in the right corner of the endzone for a 6-0 Crimson lead with 3:39 left. It was Yohe's 10th touchdown pass of the season--within striking distance of the all-time Harvard season record of 15.

Bruce Jacob converted the extrapoint to put Harvard up, 7-0.

Dartmouth returned Jacob's kick to the 22, and the Big Green offense took over. Nick Stanham took a hand-off up the middle on 1st-and-10 and raced nine yards before being hauled down by Mau. On second down, Dartmouth fullback Terry Thillis bulled over the middle for a Green first down.

On 1st-and-10 from the Green 34, Rorke found Anderson for an eight-yard gain. A run on second down was thwarted, Rorke and his halfback crossed signmals, and the ball fell to the turf before Rorke fell on it.

After a punt, the Crimson took over at its own 34, On 3rd-and-long, Yohe found running back Bob Glatz over the middle at the Harvard 44. Glatz picked the ball out of a swarm of Dartmouth defenders. The quarter ended with Harvard on top, 7-0, and Harvard in posession of the ball.

On first down, Yohe rolled right and hit Dave Bunning for a first down. After a four-yard gain by Bunning up the middle, Yohe rolled out left and hit wide-open tight-end Don Gajewski for a 17-yard gain.

Dartmouth recovered a Harvard fumble on the ensuing first down. On 3rd-and-7 Rorke hit Morton on the right sideline for a 15-yard first down gain.

After a botched Dartmouth punt, Harvard took over at the Green 45. Hinz busted up the middle, eluding several tackles for a 21-yard gain. On a play action, Yohe rolled out and hit Bunning for a 14-yard pick-up to the Green four-yard line.

Hinz then dragged Dartmouth inside linebacker Paul Michael into the endzone with him for Harvard's second TD of the afternoon at the 9:54 mark. Jacob's extra point made it 14-0, Crimson.
