Reliever Paul Vallone wasn't much more effective, surrendering three runs on eight hits in the final two innings.
The Crimson finally got on the board after 14 scoreless innings with a run in the sixth and added two more in the seventh, but by then it needed a miracle to come back.
It was not forthcoming.
