Minutewomen March By Women Cagers

UMass Outlasts Crimson, Keffer, 76-67

The Branford, Conn. native--most recent recipient of Ivy League Player of the Week Honors--pulled down seven rebounds but did not score.

"I really felt we had a shot to win this one," Delaney Smith said. "I'm disappointed that we lost, but I'm certainly not disappointed with the way we played."

"This serves as a good warm-up [for Yale and Brown, whom the Crimson face this upcoming weekend]," Delaney Smith added.

Barbara Hebel led UMass in scoring with 20 points, while teammate Susan Burtoft added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

THE NOTEBOOK: Last night's sidelines included two prominent new features: the Harvard band and a Hawaiian-style jacket worn by Delaney Smith...Harvard shot 42 percent from the field and 79 percent from the line for the game...UMass went 48 percent from the field and 64 percent from the line...The Crimson committed 28 turnovers and the Minutewomen only 15...The cagers' bench was outscored by its opponent's bench, 24-9...The two squads were even in the rebounding department, each side grabbing 34...The Crimson next sees action this weekend when Yale and Brown travel to Cambridge. Yale trails Harvard by one game in the Ivies and Brown is coming off consecutive league victories over the Elis and Cornell.
