HARVARDEDGE COLUMBIA QUARTERBACK: Brian White is first Crimson quarterback in years to return with season's experience under belt. Can run and pass. Knows Multiflex.
QUARTERBACK: Senior Henry Santos returns for the Lions, but he doesn't bring much with him. Was very inconsistent a year ago. Strong arm.
RUNNING BACKS: Robert Santiago might be the best in the league. George Sorbara, Chris Ridout and Rufus Jones all have speed and experience. Squad's best area.
RUNNING BACKS: Fullback John Chirico is the top returning rusher. Al Gonzalez, a backup a year ago, will probably start at halfback. Not much here.
RECEIVERS: The squad will carry five this weekend. That should tell you something. A problem area with no one standout in sight.
Even RECEIVERS: John Garrett, the team's leading receiver is out with an injury. Senior wide receiver Jim Greene and tight end Mark Milan are capable, and will see plenty of passes.
OFFENSIVE LINE: Only George Kostakos returns from last year's starting unit. Four new faces here make this the squad's biggest question mark and potentially its biggest problem.
Even OFFENSIVE LINE: The Lions' strong point, with three starters from last year's team back for another season. Only problem is their size--or lack thereof.
DEFENSIVE LINE: No starters return from last year's team, and that could mean big problems for Harvard. There's some talent among the new faces, but little depth.
DEFENSIVE LINE: Three starters return here, making this the defense's strong area. Wayne Snyder, Tony Tutrone and Jim Porter are the keys. Trouble last year, improved this year.
LINEBACKERS: The defense's strong point. Captain Brent Wilkinson leads this group, with returnees Scott Collins and Larry Bean providing strong support.
LINEBACKERS: A solid group, but nowehere near Harvard's linebackers. Rick cavalli and Chris Riga provide experienced size. Better against the pass than the run.
SECONDARY: Starters Cecil Cox and Ken Tarczy return from last year's squad, but this year might spend more time defensing the run than the pass.
SECONDARY: Only safety Joe Policastro returns from last year's porous group. The other three are all new, and that should make a problem area a year ago a bigger one this year.
KICKING GAME: Punter-placekicker Rob Steinberg is back. Though inconsistent, he's got a year's experience.
KICKING GAME: Senior Pete Murphy will handle the punting like he did last year. The placekicking duties could fall to one of two people. This department won't win a ballgame for the Lions.
COACHING: Joe Restic enters his 15th year just two wins shy of becoming Harvard's all-time winningest coach. Known for ingenuity--read--Multiflex.
COACHING: John Garrett makes his debut today as coach of the Lions. That's an unenviable task, even with 20 years of college and pro experience in the coaching ranks.
