The Crimson maintained its attack throughout the stanza--outshooting the visitors, 7-2--but the halftime score stood at 0-0 thanks to the non-goal.
"We knew that if we could get through the first half without giving up a goal, we were in good shape," Griffith said.
He was right. Twelve minutes into the second period, Princeton forward Cindy Lombardo got pulled down from behind in the box by Harvard back Cari Lyn Beck--giving the Tigers a golden penalty shot opportunity.
Linda DeBoer squared off against Crimson goalie Tracee Whitley in the battle of nerves, and stung a low liner into the right corner of the net for a 1-0 Princeton lead.
And while Harvard had a few chances around the 75-minute mark, the wind and the Tiger defense teamed up to keep the Crimson relatively quiet throughout the half.
Tiger Nancy Easton tallied twice within the final six minutes--first on a loose ball scramble in front of the net, and later on a final-seconds breakaway with Whitley pulled out of goal as the 11th field player--to put the game out of reach.
THE NOTEBOOK: Harvard has now been shut out nine times this season...Both the Crimson and the Tigers took three corner kicks Saturday. . . Harvard was ranked 16th in the latest national poll, Princeton 18th.
