In the second game, Harvard's fielding proved flawless, but its pitching got little respect from the UMass lincup. The Minutemen racked up 12 hit is just 28 at-bats, a .429 average, while piling up 12 runs.
But Farrell's slam give Harvard the early lead, and when UMass tied it up, the Crimson retook the lead. Bover walked and stole second, and Martelli doubled him in to give the batmen a 5-4 edge in the third.
UMass deuces in the fourth and fifth gave the Minutemen a three-run advantage, but Harvard made a game of it in the sixth. Don Allard doubled down the left-field line to start things off, Maspons drew a walk, and one out later Scott Vierra smashed a double between UMass first baseman Comeau's legs to score Allard. Weller's grounder to short brought Maspons home, and Harvard trailed by only one.
But Waszczuk homered with one on in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach.
