Boston Bruins Coach Gerry Cheevers paid goaltender Pete Peeters the ultimate compliment Sunday night.

"That was simply the best performance I've ever seen by a goaltender," said Cheevers after a brilliant display by Peeters paced the Bruins to a 2-1 National Hockey League triumph over the Quebec Nordiques.

The Bruins captured the best-of-five opening round series 3-1 and will face the Buffalo Sabres in a best-of-seven series.

But Peeters was modest in accepting the accolades.

"I just tried to hold my ground and fortunately I came up with one of the best games of my career," he said. "It's just a matter of trying to make the first save and control the rebounds."

Rookie left wing Luc Dufour produced the winning goal at 12:02 of the third period when he scored on a breakaway.

"I didn't even know it was in until I saw the red light go on," said Dufour.
