Race Relations

PHILADELPHIA--Many students at the University of Pennsylvania Law School feel "there is a problem" with race relations at the school, according to a recent poll, the Daily Pennsylvanian reported two weeks ago.

Thirty-nine per cent of the non-minority students and 60 per cent of minority students polled agreed that minority students feel isolated at Penn and sometimes "experience direct resentment of their presence."

The poll, which appeared in a report of the student/faculty relations committee, is "a step along the way" to addressing the issues of race relations, the committee report stated.

Robert Marchman, president of the Black law student union, said the results of the poll are "not something we don't know already," adding that it "just confirms how minority students feel" at the school.
