HANOVER, N.H.--A Dartmouth freshman received a college reprimand last week in the first test of a rule banning freshmen from fraternity grounds during the fall term.

Campus police apprehended Anthony Yim in the Bones Gates fraternity on October 31 and charged him with violating the freshman exclusion policy, instituted two years ago.

The College Committee on Standing and Conduct issued the warning after an open hearing held November 13. Yim is the first student to be reprimanded under the regulation.

During the open hearing, Yim admitted to entering the fraternity and said his action was "a mistake I deeply regret." The decision to go to Bones Gates was a "spur of the moment decision," prompted by peer pressure, he added.

Robert Duncanson, a sophomore, who advised Yim at the hearing, said the rule is blatantly broken by many freshmen, adding that Yim should not receive punishment as if he were the first freshman to enter a fraternity this fall.
