He added Biology "is a very exciting field" and cited the recombinant DNA issue, new advances in immunology and "the whole furor over cloning" as examples of interesting developments.
Biology and Biochemistry attract a greater proportion of women than other sciences do, the statistics show.
"For me, it's the most humanitarian science. It involves observing things and making hypotheses, not just plugging things into a formula," Danguole J. Spakevicius '81, who will concentrate in Biology, said yesterday.
Government placed fourth on the list of most popular concentrations, drawing 9.3 per cent of freshmen.
Sidney Verba '53, chairman of the department, said yesterday students concentrate in Government because "many consider it appropriate for law school."
"There is always interest in a subject like politics which affects people's lives," he added.
