And if the running and jumping edge was not enough to please the crowd, Harvard's weight men crushed the Tigers, tallying 14 points to Princeton's three. EdAjootian outdueled old Princeton foe Gene Mancino and teammate Tom Lenz to win the 35 lb. weight throw with a 59 ft. 11 1/2 in. heave, while Chris Queen and Gary Quantock placed two-three in the shot.
The only serious setback for Harvard on the day came when the weight men dropped an impromptu relay race, by just a bicep, to Princeton.
"We thought we could win this one," coach Bill McCurdy said after the meet. "We gambled by loading up on the mile, but then that Dolson came through in the 1000."
As for the weight men's relay, McCurdy had just one comment: "You better get the hell out of the way."
And although Harvard has failed to establish itself as the team to beat in Eastern running this year, after Saturday's strong showing a couple of schools may just have to get the hell out of the way at next weekend's Heptagonal meet.
