Hicks Denounces Debate Refusal

According to the polls, however, White, who beat Hicks by over 4,000 votes in the September preliminaries, will have an easy victory in the November election.

Hicks--with her familiar theme of "Boston for Bostonians"--also proposed reducing the fares on the MBTA system for the residents of Boston while charging non-residents higher rates.

"We have to make the operations of city government more business-like. We must examine our own programs like the little City Halls--programs which we can't afford--and only spend money on necessities," Hicks asserted.

Despite her concern for the fiscal problems of the city, Hicks charged that "it is illegal to charge for the Summerthing Concerts." She also accused the private corporation which runs Summerthing of never accounting for the funds it used this summer.
