Lunchtime privileges for non-Dudley House members might be further curtailed at Lehman Hall.

Calling Lehman "vastly overcrowded," Thomas E. Crooks, Master of Dudley House, has asked all persons eating lunch at Lehman Hall to stop at the checker's desk and identify their University affiliation. Crooks also wants GSAS students to complete a short questionnaire.

"Some Dudley House members have been bemoaning the fact that they cannot find a place to sit in the cluttered and debris-ridden dining room," Crooks said, "and they don't know where all these people are coming from."

Last year, Dudley House eliminated interhouse sheets, which entitled students from other Houses free lunches. Now all Harvard College students on board contracts with other Houses might be prohibited entirely from Lehman Hall during lunch hours.

The questionnaire asks GSAS students to state their departmental affiliation to help determine which graduate students most need a student center.

"The Woolf Committee's report on the graduate school described a need for a student center." Crooks said," We're hoping to determine from this questionnaire what can be done in the interim," he added.

The results, though incomplete, show that Lehman Hall is a popular gathering place for graduate students, especially those in the humanities and social sciences.
