Fencers Tackle Improving M. I. T.

The varsity fencing team akes on an improved M. I. T. squad at 7 p.m. tonight in the IAB for what should be good preparatien for a series of tough Ivy matches.

The Crimson is looking for a comeback after a close loss to C. C. N. Y. and, even though the Engineers are undefeated, tonight's match could be an excellent opportunity, "Usually we have four or five matches against New England teams like S. M. U. and M. I. T. before we face better Ivy League and New York competition," coach Edo Marion said. "But this year we came up against C. C. N. Y. in our second match M. I. T. should be easier."

But the Engineers are an improved team compared to previous M. I. T. squads and should provide adequate competition, especially in the foil. "They say their foils are pretty good, but I don't buy that," Marion said. "However, they have several experienced men and eventually could wind up better than us this season." he added.

Epee and Sabre

Even if the Engineers score heavily in the foil. Harvard's epee and sabre team should have little trouble with their opponents, M. I. T. is weak in the sabre, while Harvard's Larry Cetrulo and Richard Tolbert are good enough to win easily. They both captured two matches in the C. C. N. Y. test. Marion has seven sophomore sabremen, and one of them will gain useful experience at the number three position.

The Crimson will also have the advantage of competing in the IAB tomorrow. The home advantage is critical in fencing. "If the C. C. N. Y. match had been held here. I believe that the score would have been reversed," Marion said. Hopefully, tonight's contest will strengthen Harvard's third men at each weapon. This is the squad's weakness.

The freshmen also host M. I. T. at 7 p. m. tonight. As usual most of the Harvard team has never fenced before this year, but the Yardlings have downed Concord-Carlisle High School, 14-13, and C. C. N. Y. 16-11. Marion thinks Concord may be the team's tolighest opponent of the season.
