Cabbages and Kings

"No, sister, there's no inspection. Just make, model and serial number, like I said."

"Well, sir, where do I find the serial number? Sir?"

"The number? Well, they have it 'most anywhere. Is this here your bike? I mean some have it up here right under the seat, see, and some have it down back near the axle, right there, and some..."

"No. One is J-12349 and the other is E-6742. What do I do now?"

"Well, now you're set. Just pick one of 'em, kiddo, take it upstairs and forget the other. I mean it doesn't make that much difference. And it'd just make a mess with the records. You got it?"

"Yes. I think I'll use J-12349 since it is so near to perfection. If only I could change the nine. But anyway..."

"George Thompson, George Thompson, captain's office."

And he was busy again, terribly busy.
