The most potent court tennis team in American university history swept every match but one in last weekend's annual Invitation Tournament against Yale and Princeton at New York to give Harvard its second straight James H. Van Alen Cup.

Through its overwheiming victory, the Crimson, a heavy favorite in the tourney despite its inexperience at playing this complex sport of kings, gave indication that it will dominate the combined U.S. university team which will tour England this summer.

The big gun for the winners was Captain Nicholas ("Lucky") Ludington, Jr., who defeated Jim Van Alen, 2nd 6-1, 6-4 in the feature match of the weekend.

Another standout for the Crimson was Dazzler F. Davis III, whose dazzling play won him a smooth victory in the No. 2 spot. The doubles team of Lucky Ludington and Davis combined for a display at brilliant court play as these two game naturals won their matches in straight sets.

At three Ed Harding pushed through in two games, while John J. Mortimer, four, easily downed his opponent also in straight sets. Only Enos Richardson at five was forced to play three games to defeat Anson Beard at the five postion.

The unexpected strength in the team's ladder came at the lower positions where Randall W. Hackett and Stanislaus Kussukovich of St. Petersburg, Russia, easily defeated their opponents.
