Impetus From Gianelly
In this drive, Eikenberry carried five times, and Dodge twice, but it was big Tony Gianelly who really was the impetus to the score. He carried five times, often literally smashing through the line with two men on his back. He scored both varsity touchdowns, both coming on line bucks. He scored this one from the six.
In fact, it was a pass from Botsford to Gianelly, the only varsity completion, and one of the few Gianelly has ever caught, which set up the score. On a fourth and four on Tufts 27, Gianelly went out on a wing, and took a pass on the left flank for a first down on the 13.
But on the ensuing kickoff, the Jumbos moved the ball well, and were able to retain possession of it until there were but two minutes left in the game. At that point, the Crimson moved from its own 32 to Tufts 42, but there the attack failed and with it the game.
Punt Play Fails
In the first half, both teams scored on breaks. Phil Haughey recovered an Abrahamian fumble on the Tufts' three-yard line, and Gianelly bucked over for a Crimson score. In the seond period, one of the queerest plays in many seasons gave Tufts a TD.
