Yale retained its Ivy League lead Saturday by trouncing Cornell, 25 to 7, while Penn moved into third place by beating Brown, 14 to 7, in a third Ivy game. Princeton defeated Colgate, 28 to 20, while Dartmouth tied Holy Cross, 7 to 7.
This week's standings follow: a flat pass from Benham to Szczypkowski for seven yards. The conversion was missed.
The Harvard attack stalled on the next series of downs, and Columbia tied the game by going 55 yards in eight plays. Spraker made a fine run with a short pass from Benham, gaining 24 yards, and then tallied on a 13-yard dash over left end. Benham had lateraled to him, then blocked Botsford on the three to put him across. The half ended 13-13.
Columbia went ahead in the third period after a short punt by Stahura, going 58 yards in 11 plays. Benham, dove over from the two for the score, but Simourian blocked the conversion attempt and the score stood Columbia 19, Harvard 13.
Simourian's touchdown came late in the fourth quarter on a sweep around right end to cap an 82-yard drive. Eikenberry made two long runs and caught a 17-yard pass from Simourian in the drive.
Then came Benham's final completion.
Benham was really the story, as he completed 11 of 21 passes for 171 yards and gained 41 more on 13 runs. For the Crimson, Eikenberry gained 78 yards in 14 carries, and Stahura 79 in 16. Botsford completed four of 12 passes for 40 yards and Simourian four of six for 42.
