Dear Editors:

So you don't like Sen. Joseph r. McCarthy its too late now, because even we the common people are wise to you reds and instruments of the red conspiracy here in the U.S. There are plenty of red profs in Harvard and other colleges too. There are also plenty of reds among the students and their newspapers too like yours for example.... Their beliefs are not harmless political ones but it is part of a red conspiracy now being broken up by the patriotic Americans of our nation who have opened the eyes of all of us who up to about 2 years ago were blind as bats. Its red trash. Remember Pink Felix Frankfurter came from Harvard as did many exposed reds. Of the red cell of which the Crimson is an important part is still there but not for long.

We the working classes have also been aroused to this big lie. You fooled the Russians, Czechs, Poles et all but not us Americans. Some day we will free them too by 'liberation! If only you could hate the reds as you did the Nazis, Japs and Fascists, you "piece" loving appeasers you. Death to all you traitors we say.   Angrily,   N.Y. American Family

'Red Like Crimson'

It seems to the general public that it is no fault of Professor Wendell Furry that you fellows at Harvard have not acquired a decided red tinge. Who knows but what the bewhiskered prophet Isaiah had your paper in mind when he wrote as above.

Ever hear CRIMSON, The old school yell?

"Red is for Haaarvoord, Blue is for Yale, We are the boys that win by mail, Correspondence School, Correspondence School, Correspondence School."

And say CRIMSON, what kind of guts has a guy got who falls back on the fifth amendment when his loyalty is under fire? Your reaction, may I say, to Senator McCarthy's legitimate inquiry is like that of the rest of the RED sympathizers including the bewhiskered gentry of the Presbyterian--General Assembly. As a Presbyterian who has served in the U.S. Army I am keeping my membership in spite of the above so as to be better able to fight those skunks who think more of the Kremlin than they do of the good old USA. Never a word of sympathy from them or old Furry regarding our boys who has prisoners of war suffered bamboo stabs all over their body (see this week's Newsweek) in their fight for the skunks above.

Harry Truman gave our wonderful Douglas McArthur a dirty deal in favor of the Commies. What a happy band of pilgrims when you and he march onward back to Moscow. Goodbye now. Good marching across the steppes. Harry is a great walker.

'McCarthy Is Right'

Dear Sir:

I am a strong supporter of Harvard. My only brother, 1909, all three of my sons, 1932, '36 and '44 my son-in-law '28, and my grandson '52, are Harvard men. But in the case of Communists teaching at Harvard, Sen. McCarthy is right, and Harvard is then holly wrong. Wendell Furry has defied the United States Government and refused to answer questions on the ground that to do so would tend to incriminate him thereby proclaiming himself unfit to teach.
