John Rockwell was unexpectedly honored last night by his basketball teammates with a trophy in recognition of the two all-time College scoring records he set this season.
The trophy was presented by Captain Bill Prior in the Blockhouse at the close of a scrimmage between graduating lettermen and players who had participated in spring basketball practice. The lettermen won, 58 to 47, marking the end of the four-week session.
Rockwell, a senior, played 23 games last season, and scored 411 points to eclipse the all-time Harvard scoring total set by George Hauptfuhrer in 1946-47. Rock broke an individual College record by making 30 points against Holy Cross, then topped his own mark with 33 points in the Penn game. Later he took the Ivy League scoring title.
In accepting the trophy, Rockwell said, "I never enjoyed playing as much for a coach as I did this year for Norm Shepard. I only wish he could have come to Harvard sooner."
