A three-way tie was scored last night as the Harvard, Yale, and Princeton debate councils, arguing at the 3 respective schools, completed the annual H-Y-P triangular debate competition.
One of two Harvard teams, Melvin L. Zurier '50, John H. Sutter '51, and Robert W. Kratz '51, defeated Princeton at Princeton. Zurier was judged the best speaker of the evening. Yale trounced the Crimson's other team, Arthur W. Purcell '50, Peter H. Clayton '50, and J. Phillip Bahn '49, at Cambridge, as Princeton squashed the Elis at Yale.
The topic was: "Resolved, That the Communist Party should be outlawed in America." All there teams were defeated espousing the affirmative side of the issue.
The Crimson threesome at Princeton successfully declared that adopting guilt by association is invalid. Persons, must be convicted on overt acts, not on their beliefs, it held.
Coolidge Winners Corrected
Zurier was a winner of a $100 award in Wednesday's Coolidge Debate prize contest, rather than Donald L. Bornstein '50, as reported.
