WASHINGTON--President Roosevelt's Office of Facts and Figures, reporting to the nation on 18 months of defense effort, revealed tonight that in 1942 this country will produce as many planes and tanks "as Hitler did in all the years before 1939 when he was preparing for world conquest."
The nation today has a $1,000,000,000 munitions industry and can anticipate, through the draft law, an army of 7,000,000 men, the report said. This was contrasted with conditions in September 1939, when there was no munitions industry "of great significance" and a standing army of 230,000 men and 13,500 officers.
