LONDON-Scores of British bombers strongly protected by fighter escorts today blasted Adolf Hitler's invasion based in northwestern France and scored direct hits on the base at St. Omar from which German bombers take off for night attacks on Britain, the Air Ministry said today.

The bold daylight sweep by British pilots wrestling air initiative from Germany followed announcement of devastating raids extending from Dusseldorf, Germany, to Bordeaux, France, Tuesday night, the biggest and most extensive raids of the past two weeks.

Four enemy aircraft were shot down during the days "wide-spread offensive operations of the RAF," the Air Ministry said.

In Berlin authorized German sources said the channel raid was repulsed in a big air battle. The D.N.B. official news agency said the British lost 17 planes, indicating that the air battle was the biggest of 1941.
