STUDENT COUNCIL STILL NEEDS MORE MONEY FOR BUDGET

Bowditch Promises That Spending of the Money Will Be Carefully Planned and Made Public

Final figures on Student Council collections at registration show that a total of $3,790 was paid in cash and that an additional sum of $3,886 was pledged, making a grand total of $7,670.

$130 Short

This figure falls short of the prearranged budget of $7,800 by $130; further, judging by the experience of the past, all of the pledges will not be paid. Thus, unless further subscriptions are received, it is probable that the total finally collected will fall below $7,000.

The budget drawn up last spring by the Council foresees the following expenses:

$1,500.00 to charities.

3,000.00 to Phillips Brooks House Association.

1,000.00 to Class Funds and activities.

300.00 to expenses of the Council.

2,000.00 to the aid of Harvard undergraduates as Student Council Scholarships.

Total, $7,800.00.

P. B. H. Support

The Phillips Brooks House is principally supported by the Council; according to the constitution of the latter body, P. B. H. will be paid 45 per cent of all cash collected. Thus on the cash already received they will receive $1,705.50. If the full $3,000 promised is to be given, further cash collections on pledges must amount to $3,000.

The following statement was issued last night by John B. Bowditch '37, President of the Council, concerning the collections: "Thanks are due to those who have so generously subscribed to the Student Council budget. The spending of the money will be carefully planned, and all undergraduates will be kept informed of expenditures.

Collection Hard

"The collection of pledges is always, unfortunately, a hard job, and $3,886 are still outstanding. It is hoped that as many people as possible will mail the money to pay for their pledge care of the Student Council, Phillips Brooks House, Cambridge. The address and a duplicate pledge card is printed on the inside back cover of the red Student Council booklet distributed at registration to all students.
