James E. Meredith former Pennsylvania track star, who did the remarkable feat of breaking two intercollegiate records-one in the 440 and one in the 880-yards run-on the same afternoon, at the Intercollegiates held in the Stadium on May 27, 1916, was back at the scene of his triumphs yesterday when he came to the Stadium as a spectator Intercollegiate track meet.
The old record breaker appeared particularly interested when Watters, Harvard's star half-miler was running his heat in the 880-yards race. Ever since Watters ran the distance in the dual meet with Princeton three weeks ago in 1.55 1-5, he has been seriously considered as a possible intercollegiate champion for that event. Yesterday, in the trial heat, Watters time was 1.55 2-10, three seconds slower than Meredith's record mark, but in the competition of today's battle for the half-mile championship, it is generally believed that he will cut his time down to within a fraction of a second of the record.
