Review of This Week's Rowing

During the past week, the University and Freshman crew squads have had three days of work on the water, when they rowed in short stretches from the Boylston street bridge to the Stillman Infirmary. As the launches will not be in commission until about the middle of March, Coaches Wray and Stephenson have supervised the work of the crews from their singles, and for the last two days, Coach Wray has rowed 2 in the University boat. On Tuesday and Wednesday, three University eights were on the river, and yesterday a fourth crew was sent out.

With the exception of 4 and 2, the order of the University crew has been unchanged while on the river. Hooper rowed 4 because of Bacon's absence on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Coach Wray filled Lunt's place at 2 Wednesday and yesterday owing to the latter's injury. Of the other members of the crew Sargent at stroke is the only man who is at present rowing in the same position which he held last year. Waid, who last year was at 5, has been moved to 7, and Bacon has gone from 6 to Lunt's old place at 4, while the latter has been shifted to 2. In order to fill Severance's place at 3, Faulkner has moved from bow, the seat which Capt. Cutler is now occupying. The only new men in the boat are R. Cutler and L. Withington, both members of last year's Freshman crew, who are rowing 6 and 5 respectively. Individually every man has had experience, having rowed in at least one race at New London, and as a whole the men pull well together.

Two other crews from the University squad have been on the river each day, and in addition, a four-oared was out Wednesday and an eight yesterday.

Yesterday the crews rowed in the following order:

University crew--Stroke, Sargent; 7, Wald; 6, R. Cutler; 5, L. Withington; 4, Bacon; 3, Faulkner; 2, Coach Wray; bow, E. Cutler; cox., Blagden.

Fourth crew--Stroke, Maxwell; 7, Richardson; 6, Peabody; 5, Harding; 4, Tabor; 3, Comstock; 2, Cudahy; bow, Richards; cox., Everett.

On Tuesday, two Freshman crews were lanuched on the river for the first time, and on Wednesday a third crew was made up. Yesterday, however, only two boats were sent out, the rest of the squad rowing on the machines.

The orders yesterday were as follows:
