Then the play was in the centre of the field until finally Brewer caught a punt and tried to return it but kicked the ball to Boyle who carried it well up in to Harvard's territory. Two more rushes and it was over the line, Brooke making the touchdown and also kicking the goal, making the score, Pennsylvania 11, Harvard 4.
Again Harvard kicked off and after a few minutes of play the ball was carried by Harvard down to the Pennsylvania 10 yard line. Wrightington made two short rushes, and followed them with a little punt. The ball struck the upright post of the goal and fell into Brooke's arms and bounded out. Wrightington got the ball and threw himself across the line for Harvard's second touchdown.
Again Brewer failed to kick the goal, and the score was 11 to 8 in favor of Pennsylvania, which was the score at the end of the first half.
Between the halves a strong breeze sprung up, which was in Pennsylvania's favor when the game was resumed. From the 50-yard line Brooke drove the ball on a long, low punt clear to the corner of the field. Harvard was close to her own goal line. Brewer went clear back to the fence to punt. He was slow, and his punt was blocked. Boyle fell on it for a touchdown. Brooke kicked the goal. and the score was 17 to 8.
Down on the 25-yard line in front of the Harvard goal the two elevens faced each other again. Dunlop made a beautiful gain of 12 yards through the centre. After one more rush. Dunlop had to quit on account of physical weakness. Brown took his place.
It was evident that the Harvard men were going in to show their courage. Steadily but surely the Pennsylvania team was being driven back across one line after another, by a series of irresistible rushes at the tackles. There were only six minutes left when Harvard crossed the center line and started down the field.
Rush followed rush. For 25 plays Harvard kept the ball and carried it 70 yards down the field until the goal line was only 15 yards away. Then the U. of P. men made a firm stand and held Harvard for two downs. On the third down Wrightington made a short punt. As the bottom of the heap was reached Cabot was found clinging to the ball with both arms, about a yard over the goal line. The ball was punted in to Beale and Brown kicked the goal, making the score, 17 to 14.
With only two minutes left to play, Brooke kicked off for Pennsylvania again to Brewer. He tried to punt, but his kick was blocked. Rice got the ball and rushed it 15 yards. Harvard was carrying the ball straight on toward Pennsylvania's goal line again when time was called.
