The practice of the 'varsity football squad yesterday afternoon was full of snap. Waters seemed to put new life into the tacles as they showed considerable improvement. Stevenson was more successful on defensive work. In the offensive work he frequently broke through but after he got through he never accomplished anything. Especially was this true when he broke through on kicks. He never seemed really to try to stop the kick.
Haughton was more active than heretofore although at times he still played poorly. Many gains were made through him. Donald played a good steady game throughout.
Cabot was hurt early in the practice, Newell taking his place. In many ways Newell has shown himself better than Cabot in the recent playing. Cabot has done too much loafing lately and needs to wake up if he intends to keep his place.
Doucette played right guard in the first half. Under Lewis's coaching he showed marked improvement, so that he filled the position better than Jaffray.
As Dunlop was unable to play on account of a weak knee, Fairchild played fullback. Gonterman gave another of his exhibition end runs, using his arms well in blocking off. Wrightington spent the afternoon in punting, while C. Brewer spent some time in practicing drop kicks.
The line-up was:
FIRST. SECOND.
Cabot, l.e. r.e., Brown.
Moulton, l.e.
Stevenson, l.t. r.t., Eddy.
Rice, l.g. r.g., Hennen.
Shaw, c. c., Hoague.
Doucette, r.g. l.g., Sargent.
Jaffray, r.g.
Donald, r.t. l.t., Ladd.
