Election Day Game.At present it seems that the proposed Cornell game for election day will not be played, as the Crescent team is not willing to let Cornell off their agreement. A game with some other team will be arranged.
Ninety-Seven. 10; Ninety-Eight, 10.The first game of the class series was played yesterday afternoon between the sophomores and the freshmen, and resulted in a tie. The freshmen were strengthened by Hennen and Hoague from the 'varsity, and they did very effective work in tackling and making holes. The defensive work of both teams was much weaker than the offensive. As a whole both teams played Well, though '97 grew weaker in the second half. The sophomores started out playing hard and scored twice in the first half and not at all in the second. The freshmen could not hold them in the first, but in the second part of the game they scored two touchdowns quite easily. For '97 the best playing was done by Garrison, Sullivan, and Scannell. For '98, Fincke, Woods and Ames played best.
In the first half '98 had the kick-off. They got the ball again and rushed it down to the sophomores' five yard line. There '97 got it on a fumble and in two rushes carried it to within twenty-five yards of the goal. Then Garrison, by a very pretty criss-cross, drew in the freshmen's right end and scored a touchdown. Garrison kicked a goal.
The sophomores got the ball from the kick-off and worked it steadily down the field, playing mostly with the tackles back. Scannell made a touchdown, and Garrison missed the goal.
In the second half '98 returned the kick-off, got the ball on a muff, and Fincke scored a touchdown in two minutes' play. Fincke kicked the goal. The sophomores kicked off again, '98 returned it, and got the ball on four downs. They rushed it down the field mostly by centre plays and Fincke made another touchdown, but missed the goal. The rest of the half the ball was held pretty near the centre of the field. The make-up was as follows:
NINETY-SEVEN. NINETY-EIGHT.
Smith, l.e. r.e., Bull.
Chatman, l.t r.t., Ames.
Hovey, l.g. r.g., Woodward.
Fitzgerald, c. c., Hennen.
