Among this large number of candidates are several men who have made good reocords in preparatory schools. For all the track events good new men have appeared, but none for the broad jump, hammer throwing, or putting the shot.

For the sprints, the most promising men are Grandin, Lyttle, McCarthy. These particular candidates have no established recoreds, but have shown considerable speed in trial heats.

In the quarter mile Blakemore and Mansfield have both done better than 53 sec. In the half mile,where there will be the greatest number of vacancies this year, there are four good freshmen, Wesson, the new comer from Worcester Academy, winner of the half mile run in the Interscholastic games with a record of 2 min. 6 sec.; J. R. Wade, E. Hollister,and Blakemore. the best freshamn candidate in the mile run is R. R. Hollister, who played end on the Exeter eleven last fall, and in the spring won the mile run in the Exeter-Andover games. His best record is 4 min. 49 sec.

H. L. Williams last year made a record of 16 3-5 sec. over three-foot hurdles in the New York Interscholastic games. equalling Fearing's old record. A. Stickney has a record of 5 ft. 9 in. in the high jump.

In addition to this number are several who are running for the first time. Mr.Lathrop has had them all under his care for a month, and expresses himself as being well satisfied with their progress.
