There has recently been published in the Yale News a table giving the list of cities from which Yale drew the largest portion of her students. In order to show what representation these cities send to Harvard as well as to Yale there is printed below in addition to the Yale table, a table of Harvard's sources. As a rule the same cities are taken as were mentioned in the Yale list. It is evident that from the cities in Connecticut and New Jersey Yale draws more men than does Harvard; but on the other hand Harvard's representation from Massachusetts and Maine is much larger than Yale's. The interesting and important part of the comparison lies in the figures of the Western cities and of New York. In her representation from New York Yale leads us 146 to 136. Further west Yale seems to have a little advantage in the Central State towns while Harvard gets more men from the far West and from the South.
In the Harvard table the first column includes the college and scientific school, and that called "others" includes the Dental, Divinity, Veterinary Schools, and the Bussey institute.
