LECTURES ON ENGLISH LITERATURE.Mr. E. Charlton Black, late of the University of Edinburgh, is delivering a course of twenty lectures on English Literature, in Sever 11, on Monday evenings at 7.30. The lectures are open to the public, and the subjects, as far as announced, are as follows: -
Dec. 19 - Chaucer and Langland.
Jan. 9 - Pre - Elizabethan Poetry of Scotland.
Jan. 16. - Spenser and Drummond of Hawthornden.
ENGLISH B.For theme 5, due December 20, the whole class is required to expound Good Use and the Principles of Composition, in their relation to all the Elements of Style, arranging the matter according to the plan specified on p. 187. 11. 9-14, of Asst. Professor Wendell's "English Composition."
Theme 4, returned to writers on December 20, will be due with revisions, not as previously announced on January 3, but on January 10. The instructors will keep office-hours to discuss this theme on Saturday, January 7.
