Arnold led off with about 12 yards through the hole that Clark made for him, but Cross stopped Clark's rush, and then Brewer dropped back for a try at goal. The line held well, as it did on kicks throughout the game, but Brewer missed his chance by about a yard.
Yale had the ball on the 25 yard line, but lost in with a gain of only 2 yards. Brewer and Arnold got 7 yards, but on the next play the ball went to Yale on a fumble, but Harvard got it again in the next three downs.
A series of six short gains by Arnold, Brewer, Shea and Fennessy, and the ball was inside the 5 yard line. Then a push-play altogether with Arnold in the middle, and the first touch-down of the game went to Harvard. Brewer kicked the goal.
Yale made 8 yards on the V and then began a succession of wedges and push-plays, never making more than 5 yards at a time but never losing the ball till they got within Harvard's 20 yard line. But that they stopped short, and after the next rush the half was over.
As at Springfield Harvard opened the second half with a play that was the sensation of the day. It was a Deland flying start, with the same formation as the Springfield play, but this time the heavy groups were decoys, and the light groups, in the centre of which was Brewer and the ball, went sprinting off round the opposite end, till the ball was on Yale's 27 yard line. The spectators were almost wild with delight.
Yale got the ball, however, on the fourth down, but was forced to kick, and Brewer muffed. A few gains and then it was Harvard's turn to take it a after third attempt to gain.
Harvard could not gain, and Brewer kicked to Thorn, who started to run, but Foster would not let him.
Thorn made one run of 12 yards between Worden and Shea, but otherwise there was no gain, and Hall kicked, Brewer making a fair catch almost at the centre of the field.
Arnold got 5 yards, and then in a minute Shea added five more. A trick gave Brewer 5, but Harvard couldn't do any more, and the ball went to Yale.
A gain of 15 yards by DeWitt, and short ones by Armstrong, Thorn and Hall, then three wedges gave Yale about 35 yards, but Hall dropped the ball on the next play, and Harvard got it.
Brewer was forced to kick on the third down, and the ball was Yale's at the centre of the field.
Yale couldn't gain at first, but suddenly Hall started off round Brewer's end, and was only brought down when Brewer made the best tackle of the day. Twenty-five yards was the length of the run. DeWitt and Armstrong made short gains, and then DeWitt was given a big hole between Shea and Foster, and dodging Brewer got 25 yards to the 1 yard line before he was downed. On the next play he was pushed over the line, and then Hall kicked the goal by about a foot and tied the score.
The same opening gave 8 yards, and then Arnold got 10 more on an old-fashioned criss-cross, to which Brewer added 7 in a couple of rushes. But Hickok stopped the next pass and it was Yale's ball.
There were four more downs, and then the referee called time and the game was over with the ball nearly in the centre of the field.
