Harvard defeated the Phillips Andover Academy nine yesterday afternoon by a score of eleven to one. The Academy team played a very good game and made a far better showing than Exeter. Dalzell, a brother of the Yale pitcher, was in the box, and he was very wild, giving seven men their bases on balls, besides letting in several runs by wild pitches. Harvard did not hit freely, however. On the contrary the batting was weak throughout, a total of only seven hits being made in the eight innings that were played. In the field Harvard did much better and played a practically errorless game. Alward was tried at shortstop for the first time and did exceptionally well, accepting all of his seven chances. Hallowell, in centre-field, covered his ground also very creditably. Cummings pitched the first five innings and the visitors secured only one hit from him; but they were evidently very weak at the bat. Spalding was put in to pitch for the last three innings and kept the batting down until the last inning, when a single and a triple were secured from his delivery. For Andover, Rustin, in centre-field played a brilliant game, and accepted four difficult chances; Anderson's work also, at second base, was very fine in spite of his one error.

In the sixth inning Case knocked a sharp grounder which looked like a hit to right field. Linn made a very pretty play by fielding him out at first.

Harvard was first at the bat, but two men struck out and no runs were made. For Andover, Case got his base on balls and stole second. The next man flied out to Alward, who made a pretty double play with Dean, putting out Case. In the second inning Trafford was hit by the pitcher, reached third on battery errors, and came home on Upton's sacriflice. In the next inning Linn made a hit and brought in Dean, who reached first on Stearns' wild throw, second on a steal, and third on a passed ball. In the fifth inning Harvard made five runs on two bases on balls, three steals, Stearns' error, Mason's and Upton's sacrlfices, a fearfully wild pitch, and hits by Howland and Trafford. In the sighth inning four more runs were secured. Mason made a hit and was advanced a base, while Spalding hit a slow grounder to the infield and reached first. Hallowell's hit advanced them both a base. A passed ball and a wlld pitch brought all three men home. Dean got his base on balls for the third time, both second and third on a wild pitch, and scored on Linn's sacrifice.

Andover earned her only run in the eighth inning. Dalzell made a hit and was brought in by Stearns' three-bagger. The score:
