The second game of the season was played with the Exeter Academy nine on Jarvis field on Saturday afternoon. It was the Exeter team's first game and the men showed a lamentable lack of practice. The strange grounds evidently bothered them, also; for they seemed badly rattled all through the game. Pitcher White could not rely on his catcher, and had to let up in his delivery; and the Harvard men found no difficulty in hitting him safely, although not very heavily. The Exeter nine seemed to do fair work in practise before the game, and evidently has some good material in it, if it is properly developed. The comparison of Exeter's play with that of Andover next Wednesday, will be interesting, in that it will throw some light on the outcome of the annual Exeter-Andover game.

The Harvard nine played only fairly well. The men were poorly coached in the field. Soule was called to take a fly which was in Evans' territory, and Stetson and Soule were both coached for a fly back of third base which was allowed to drop between them and Codman. Trafford played his first regular game at 1st base and did well, although he made a bad mistake in leaving his base uncovered to take a slow grounder which was Luce's. He batted finely, however.

Luce was very wild. He got the bases full, and then forced two men in by giving bases on balls, and hitting the batter.

The game opened with Harvard at the bat. Dean, Linn, Trafford, and Codman made hits, and these together with a base on balls, and five or six errors netted Harvard seven runs. In the second inning again all the men had a bat, and six of them crossed the plate. The third inning gave Harvard five more tallies; Trafford got his base on balls, Stetson hit safely, Codman was also sent to first base on balls, and Evans reached first base on balls, and Evans reached first base on Kent's errors. All were brought home on errors, and a sacrifice by Linn. In the fourth inning the Exeter fielders were given plenty to do. Trafford came to the bat twice, and hit safely both times the latter time bringing in Dean, Linn, and Howland, and coming home on the same play after the left fielder had fumbled the ball and then thrown it wild to the plate. Stetson and Codman also made hits this inning, and Evans lined out a two-bagger to left field. In the next two innings Harvard did some good batting, and made five more runs. In the seventh and last inning she was white-washed

Exeter scored twice in the second inning on a base on balls, a two-base hit, and Soule's muff. A base on balls, a three-bagger, and Soule's fumble gave them two more runs in the fourth inning. In the sixth inning Kent made a hit and took second and third on Evans' fumble of the ball; Howard took first on Trafford's mistake, and Stephenson filled the bases by getting a base on balls. Luce gave the next man his base on balls and hit the next batter, thus forcing two runs in. This ended the run-getting. The following is the score.
