The sophomores and freshman then had their pull, with the following teams:

The freshmen got the drop by one inch, and then kept on taking in more rope, until after five minutes they won by 3 inches.
The next event was the middle-weight sparring, with F. B. Winthrop, '91, and L. W. Chamberlain, '90. From the beginning Winthrop showed that Chamberlain was outclassed, and after two rounds, in which he was hardly touched, he was awarded the event.
In the final bout in the light-weight spairing, Cheney, '92, defeated Putnam, '92. Putnam was the heavier man, and lasted better than his opponent, but Cheney's quickness and leading stood him in good stead.
During this match, Mr. E. Sturgis, '90, president of the H. A. A. announced that at the next winter meeting the 'varsity crew was going to give an exhibition on the rowing machines.
