Harvard, 20; Harvard '85, 5.

The university played a game on Holmes yesterday afternoon with a team made up with two exceptions of men who played on the university team in 1885. The '85 men were so out of practice that the game did not help the regular team as much as it was expected it would. They will, however, be able to give a valuable criticism of the nine. The Eighty-five men appeared astonished at their poor game. The university team played listlessly. McLeod pitched, and, except for his slowness, did fairly well. The outfield had two chances which Linn accepted.

Eighty-five came to the bat. Beauman led off, but a short hit to second put him out at first. Phillips reached first on a long hit to right, well stopped by Linn. Nichols was out at first giving Phillips third on a poor throw by Willard. He soon got home on Henshaw's poor throw. Allen's strike out put the side out. Harvard batted in the usual order, Dean lead off and got first on poor judgment of Beaman and Foster. He stole second. Linn got a three-base hit, bringing Dean home. Howland was caught out on a foul near first by Boyden. Henshaw followed him in same manner. Willard got caught between second and third; in the meantime Linn tried to reach home but was caught on the plate. Boyden out, McLeod to Willard. Smith out by a well stopped grounder, Howland to Willard. Edgerly struck out. Hawley got his base on balls and stole second. Evans also was given first. Corning made a base hit and allowed Hawley to get home and Evans third. McLeod reached first on balls, Dean got one for two bases and Evans and Corning scored. Linn followed with another for two bases, which allowed McLeod and Dean to score. Howland made a sacrifice giving Linn third. Willard made a two base hit bringing Linn home. Henshaw was out at first by a short fly. Hawley was out on a fly leaving Willard on third. Howland caught Foster's ground hit well and by a swift throw put him out at first. Winslow did not reach first; Dean to Willard. Beaman made a long base hit but was caught on second by Henshaw's throw to Dean. Winslow went in to pitch and Nichols went to right field, Evans reached first on Boyden's error and got to third on Winslow's wild throw. Corning followed with a base hit which brought Evans home. McLeod's hit to first was muffed. Dean hit to right, was put out, but on the play Corning got home. Linn got first on the unsuccessful attempt to put out McLeod at home. Howland's base hit got him first. He stole second and got third while Willard reached first on Boyden's error. Henshaw was out on a high fly caught by Beanman, Hawley struck out. Phillip's hight foul and Nicholl's short one were caught by Henshaw. Allen was given first and in same manner was followed by Boyden. Smith also got first on balls. A wild throw by Henshaw away over Willard's head gave Allen and Boyden a chance to get in. Willard's wild throw home let in Smith. Edgerly struck out. Evans fouled out to third, and Corning's fly was caught by shortstop. McLeod followed with a foul and out by Allen. Foster led off with a three base hit beyond left. Winslow struck out. Dean caught Beaman's hit. Foster got home on another wild throw by Henshaw to third. Phillips was given first on balls and reached second on McLeod's balk. He stole third. Nichols got first on balls. Phillips tried to steal home on a passed ball but was caught on the plate by McLeod. Dean led off with a good hit for one base, stole second and third and got home on a passed ball. Linn got around on a base on balls, a steal and two passed balls. Howland was also given first and on a hit of Willard's got home. Henshaw was out by a grounder, pitcher to first. Willard reached third. Hawley was given first and forced to second. Evans was out on first. Corning got second by errors and Willard scored. Hawley did some absurd base running but reached home. Corning got home on third's fumble. McLeod did not get to first. Corning stopped Allen's hit and put him out at first. Boyden's long hit was caught by Linn and third to first stopped Smith. Dean got a base on balls, Linn got another base hit by which Dean got third. Linn was caught between bases, but allowed Dean to score. Howland and Willard got first on errors. Henshaw was out by right on a good hit. Hawley made a two base hit by which Willard scored. Evans was out at first, and Dean was out at home. Hawley was left. The game was stopped by stopped by rain.
