Monday afternoon Harvard played their second championship game of the season and defeated Princeton by a score of 3 to 1 at Princeton. The game was scheduled to be played on Saturday, but owing to a heavy rain it was postponed, and the nine remained in Princeton over Sunday. Henshaw cut his hand Monday morning and will not be able to play for at least two weeks. Campbell caught and Holden played third.
The game was close and exciting throughout and Harvard won by its sharp fielding and superior base-running. Most of Princeton's hits were scratch hits and they were scattered. Princeton's infield played a loose game, while Harvard played a strong, steady fielding game from the start.
Princeton's only run was made in the sixth inning. After Price had flied out to Wiestling, Durell made a hit and got to third on passed balls Reynolds then made a single bringing Durell home, but was left himself as the next two men went out. Several other times during the game Princeton got men on bases, but our sharp fielding, and their inability to hit Boyden safely, kept them there.
Harvard scored their first run in the fifth innings. Linn got his base on balls, went to second on a passed ball, and came home on a wild pitch. In the sixth they scored again, Campbell made a hit, took second and third on passed balls and got home on Brownlee's error in dropping the ball in an attempt to catch him at the plate. In the eighth Harvard scored their third and final run of the game. Campbell made a two base hit, went to third on Willard's grounder to first base, and came home on a passed ball.
Campbell played by far the best game that was played. He caught well, threw to bases finely, and led the batting of both sides. Boyden was very effective and Wiestling fielded well. Mercur also pitched a very good game. The score:
