On Saturday afternoon the lacrosse team won another victory, defeating Cambridge 5 goals to 1.
The referee, Mr. E. S. Abbot, '87, placed the ball at 5 o'clock. It soon went to the Cambridge end of the field, but the tries for goal were wild and Harvard failed to score. At the end of fifteen minutes the Cambridge attack secured the ball, and after some clever passing Crocker threw a goal.
Harvard's attack field failed to pull itself together for the remaining fifteen minutes and the half closed with the score 1 to 0 in favor of the visitors. The defence play was very steady throughout the half, Williams play being particularly good.
The second half opened with very different work. Cambridge had strengthened her defence, but to no purpose. Our defence and centre kept the ball down among the homes. Hood, who was particularly active, worked the ball down to Blodgett who swiped a goal. Time, 14 minutes.
Dudley, Blodgett and Hale now settled down to work, and "see-sawed" the ball back and forth very cleverly, getting repeated shots. One of these shots made by Blodgett, spun along the ground and between the posts. Time, 6 minutes.
Again the ball was faced, and Hood carried it down the field, where it travelled back and forth from one Harvard player's stick to another for five minutes, when Hale shot successfully, scoring the third goal for our team.
The ball was placed and fell almost immediately into Hood's stick. He dodged by several men and threw goal number four in just one minute.
After this goal Dube and Clancy carried the ball to our defence field, where the men had very little to do and were napping. A lively scramble ensued; Peabody woke up with a start, bodied two men, fell over another, and sent the ball way down the field. The Harvard attack again seized it and after several lobs and passes, Blodgett secured our fifth and last goal. Time, three minutes.
Although our team failed to get down to work during the first half, there was one noticeable improvement over former games this year, the men did not crowd from one end of the field to the other after the ball.
The teams were as follows:
Harvard. Positions. Cambridge.
Peck Goal. Greenleaf
Peabody Point. Simpson
Williams Cover-point. Clacy
Goodale First defence. Barr
