President Adams, of Cornell, was in augurated yesterday with great ceremonies; the college was given a holiday, and everything with the event passed off very successfully.

The Polo Club dinner was held at Young's last evening, and was an extremely enjoyable affair. Messrs. Carroll, Belmont and Lawrence were the committee.

Bemis, '87, broke the record in the seven-mile walk yesterday afternoon by about seven minutes. The previous record was 65m. 15s. His record was 57m. 52s.

The standing of the class foot-ball teams is as follows:

'86 won 2 games, lost 0.

'87 won 1 games, lost 1.

'88 won 1 games, lost 1.

'89 won 0 games, lost 2.

If '88 succeeds in defeating '86, '88, '87, and '86 will all tie for first place. The next game is between '87 and '89, and will be played on Saturday next.

Yesterday H. H. Bemis, '87, beat the best college record, 65m. 15 1-4s., in the seven mile walk. Following is a complete schedule by miles. 1st mile, 7.58 1-2; 2nd, 8.17; 3rd, 8.27 1-2; 4th, 8.33; 5th, 8.31; 6th, 8.35 1-2; 7th, 8.31 1-2. Total for the seven miles, 58m. 52s. The timers were E. A. Thompson, '87, W. Baker, '86, J. G. Lathrop; scorers, H. W. Keyes, '87, H. L. Clark, '87; judge of walking, J. G. Lathrop. The walk was started at 3.54 p. m.

President McCosh of Princeton College announces that within five years he expects to make a full-fledged university out of that institution. During his connection with it as President, he has received five millions of dollars, which have been expended for the most part in the erection of handsome buildings, and in providing for the salaries of fellows and new professors. Dr. McCosh is as active in behalf of the college as if he had never succeeded in getting a dollar in contributions, and his appearance at meetings of the alumni is always hailed with delight.
