FACT AND RUMOR.

The vacation of the Yale students has been made a week longer by a recent vote of their faculty, and next fall the men will not have to return to New Haven until Sept. 18.

The officers of the Bicycle Club for the next year are as follows: F. W. White, '85, president; C. L. Harrison, '86, Captain; A. G. Mason, '86, sub captain; W. C. Appleton, '87, secretary and treasurer.

Irving Hale, who heads the class of '84 at West Point, has made a record surpassing that on any other cadet who ever graduated from the military academy. He is twenty-two years old and comes from Coiorado.

The University of California has some mischief-making sophomores, who have been beguiling innocent young applicants for admission, in putting them through the ordeal of begus examinations.

The University of Pennsylvania has organized a new department of biology for experimental research as well as teaching of the higher class. At the head of the faculty is Dr. Joseph Leidy professor of anatomy and zoology. The new department will receive women as well as men.

At the annual business meeting of the Glee Club on Monday, the following officers for the ensuing year were elected: President, W. H. Baldwin, '85; vice president, A. G. Mason, '86; secretary, E. Howard, '85; treasurer, W. H. Edgerly, '86. At this meeting a valuable baton was presented with appropriate remarks by the president, Mr. Eliot, in behalf of the club, to Mr. Osborne, in recognition of his efficient and faithful services as leader during the past year.

The following are the newly elected officers of the Yale baseball association for the ensuing year: President, D. W. Mulvane, '85; vice-president, J. Oliver, 85, Sheffield scientific school; secretary, C. M. Lewis, '86; treasurer, S. D. Capen, '85. The football club officers are: President, R. S. Storrs, '85; vice-president, E. A. Meredith, '85, Sheffield scientific school; secretary and treasurer N. M. Goodlett, '86.
