FACT AND RUMOR.

There is posted on the university bulletin a circular from the signal officer, war department, Washington, which may be of interest to some of the graduating class.

At the last games of the Young America cricket club, W. B. Page, of the University of Pennsylvania, tied the American amateur record of 5 feet, 9 inches, in the running high jump.

Yale defeated N. Y. University at lacrosse on Saturday. The match was played at New Haven, and resulted in a score of 11 to 0. This is the first game played in the championship series.

The remarkable steadiness of Mr. Winslow's pitching in yesterday's game is worthy of special mention. His arm was so lame before the game that he was in doubt whether he could pitch at all, and yet in 13 innings he gave only 3 men bases on balls, and did not make a single wild pitch.

The athletic games of the juniors and freshmen of Yale were held Friday afternoon, and were largely attended. The winners were : Juniors-100-yard dash, Brooks, 10 1-4s.; half-mile run, Ferris, 2m. 21s.; 120-yard hurdle dash, Robinson, 21s.; one-mile bicycle race, Maxwell, 3m. 33 1-2s.; running broad jump, Vincent, 18 feet; putting the shot, Cutler, 35 feet, 11 inches (handicap 5 feet); 210-yard dash, Brooks, 24s.; 440-yard dash, Ferris, 55s. Freshmen-100-yard dash, Meacham, 11 1-5s.; 120-yard dash, hurdle race, Ludington, 21 1-2s.; running broad jump, Ludingington, 18 feet; mile run; Pettee, 5m. 12 3-4s.; 220-yard dash, Glisson, 25 1-2s.; putting shot, Coxe, 34 feet 1 inch; throwing the hammer, Coxe, 82 feet 1-2 inch.
