Fact and Rumor.

The second thesis in Philosophy 4 is due Nov. 11.

A new floor has been put in the fencing room of the gymnasium and a large number of lockers have been added.

It is rumored that in case a sufficient number of students march there will be a separate division assigned to them in Thursday's procession.

Dartmouth is to have a special instructor in gymnastics, whose duties outside the gymnasium will consist of lectures on Hygiene.

It is reported that the Yale Freshman are to have a Sanskrit yell.-Ex. Cornell Sophomores will go them one better in having a Choctaw yell.

The fourth ten of the Institute of 1770 from '87 is as follows : Willard, Kuhn, Hecksher, Shippen, Brooks. Loud, Baum, A. C. Smith, Ayer, De Veau.

Yesterday was the second time within a week that the Trinity eleven has disappointed us by telegraphing at the last minute their inability to come.

The Columbia boat house has been removed from its old anchorage at Mott Haven to a new one further up the river on the New York side at the terminus of the elevated road.

At the third attempt to have class races at Yale, only two six oared crews competed, representing '87 and '88. The '87 boat became filled with water, and the crew were taken off when the boat was on a level with the water.

It is reported that a company is to be formed from some of the larger private schools in Boston, such as Hopkinson's and Noble's to march in the procession tomorrow night. Their uniform is to be a white gown, with a tall "plug" hat in imitation of the collegians.

There will be a debate this evening at the Harvard Union. The question is : "Do the best interests of the country demand the success of the Democratic party in the coming Presidential election ?" The speakers on the affirmative are, H. M, Sewall, L. S. and O. R. Hansen '85; negative, C. R. Saunders, L. S. and E. T. Sanford '85.

The following is the official result of the canvass of the Institute : Professors and instructors-Cleveland, 29; Blaine, 11; St. John, 1; Lockwood, 1; no choice, 5. Students-Blaine, 371; Cleveland, 156; St. John, 18; Butler, 1. It will be seen that 77 per cent. of the instructors and 32 per cent. of the students are opposed to Blaine. The class of '85 is the only class which cast a majority of votes for Cleveland.
