All of the candidates for the 'Varsity Nine were practising on Holmes Field yesterday afternoon, for the first time this season.

The 80th birthday of Rev. Lucius R. Paige, the historian of Cambridge, was celebrated yesterday. Mr. Paige has received an honorary M. A. degree from Harvard.

An immense audience, that filled Sever 11 to overflowing, attended Professor James' weekly lecture in physiology yesterday. The subject of the next lecture is "The Blood and Heart.'

Baker, '84, who played short-stop on the nine last year, has nearly recovered from his painful' accident, and all will be glad to hear that he will probably occupy his old position again this year. He was out on the field yesterday.

The training for the class tug-of-war teams goes on bravely every afternoon in the basement of the gymnasium, in the presence of admiring spectators. The "scratch" teams seem to gain the advantage about as often as the regular teams.

The faculty's decision in regard to Professor Ko's pupil from '83, is as follows: His six hours a week in Chinese for the past half year will count as a three-hour elective for the year, and the omitted three hours may be made up by him either this year or next year.
