FACT AND RUMOR.

A hitch in the negotiations for a race between the Crimson and Advocate has, we understand, occurred, and serious complications threaten to arise out of the difficulty.

At a meeting of the board of directors of the Co-operative Society Wednesday night it was voted to establish a uniform rate of ten per cent commission on all second-hand books sold for members.

A petition to be signed by members of the university has been placed at the office of the Co-operative Society. The petition is with regard to the removal of duties on imported books, and is addressed to Congress.

The former members of the class of '82 of Phillips-Exeter Academy are requested to meet in 50 Matthews at 7 o'clock this evening. The meeting is for the purpose of perfecting arrangements in regard to the centennial celebration next June.

The petition for the extension of the Thanksgiving recess will be left at Memorial all today, and will be removed to Bartlett's Saturday and Monday. Those who wish to sign must come forward immediately, as the petition will be handed in early Monday afternoon.

The Freshman Eleven had a lively practice game with the 'Varsity yesterday afternoon. Their playing has shown rapid improvement during the last two weeks. What they lack most at present is harmony in their rush line and a systematic defense. Their tackling and kicking was a very agreeable surprise to their many friends who were watching the play. In the early part of the game they scored two goals, both kicked from the field.

Tomorrow the Freshman Eleven will play in Andover against the eleven of Phillips-Andover Academy. The usual price of tickets is $1.50, but if thirty-five men will accompany the team a reduction will be made, and the price of round trip tickets will be only 70 cents. All wishing to accompany the team will please enter their names in the book at Bartlett's before 4 P. M. today. It is to be hoped that the eleven will be well supported by the class.
