THEO. Hear me, Norma; in pity hear me.
JULIA (looking up over a barn).
In the sky the bright stars glitter.
THEO. All that glitters is not gold.
O Jane, O Jane, my pretty Jane!
JULIA (startled, drops hoe-cake. THEODORE takes the cake).
Hark! I hear a voice.
THEO. It is I, love, - it is I, love,
Murmuring thy dear name o'er.
JULIA. Murmur softly, sweet and low,
Mother sleeps.
THEO. What did little birdie say?
Will I meet her at the bar?
JULIA. I am tired now and sleepy too.
