IN the game yesterday the Beacons won by a score of 3 to 1. The game was well played up to the eighth innings, when Harvard began to make numerous errors. Stevens caught for Harvard.
THE Old South Association met yesterday, and elected the following officers: President, Charles W. Eliot, of Harvard College; Secretary, Dr Samuel A. Green; Treasurer, Colonel Henry Lee.
THE two stained-glass windows given by the class of 1857 are now being put up in Memorial. On one is Epaminondas, and underneath, the Spartan mother giving the shield to her son. On the other is Sir Philip Sidney, and beneath, the scene at the battle of Zutphen, where that knight gives the wounded soldier his own cup of water.

THE report in the last Crimson that a man had been put on special probation for going to prayers while he was excused is incorrect. His excuse was merely withdrawn. The Registrar also denies having threatened anybody with suspension who sat out of his seat.
A MASTER for Mathematics and German is to be engaged for two years, from the first of September next, at De Veaux College, Suspension Bridge, New York. He must be an Episcopalian. Salary, $700, with room, board, &c. For further information apply to James W. Harris, Secretary H. C.
THE Scratch races take place at the boat-house to-morrow morning at 11 A. M. The races are as follows: Senior scullers; Four-oared barges; Junior scullers; Six-oared barges. The entrance-fee is fifty cents, and must be paid in advance. The entry-book is at Sever's, and it is earnestly requested that all entries may be made by four o'clock to-day.

AT the meeting of the Club Committee of the H. B. C. Tuesday evening, it was decided to get caps, probably gray, with a crimson and blue monogram of the letters H. B. C. on the front, and a crimson rim or circle on the top; a ribbon, probably dark blue, with diagonal crimson stripes, and a seal for the shingle. The room in the basement of Little's Block is now ready to receive bicycles.
THE Hon. Hugh McCulloch will deliver a course of seven lectures in Sanders Theatre on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, at 7 1/2 o'clock, beginning on Tuesday evening, May 6. The subjects are as follows: Money, May 6; Bi-metallic Money, or the Silver Question, May 8; the Representatives of Money, May 9; the Representatives of Money (continued), May 13; National Debts and Foreign Exchange, May 15; Taxation, May 16; Capital and Labor, May 20. These lectures will be open to the public.

THE fee next year for the full year's instruction for women will be $200. The fees for single courses will vary from $75 to $100.
The New York Tribune says that the college Punch, the Harvard Lampoon, is growing bolder and bolder in its ventures.
MR. GODDARD will leave for Worcester to-morrow. He will be the guest of Mr. Bigelow, and will keep his boats at O'Leary's, on the lake.
THE Club-house float was partially destroyed last Tuesday afternoon by the Sophomore class crew, who ran into it with their shell.
MR. CROSS, of Providence, will umpire the Brown-Harvard game to-morrow. The train for Providence leaves at 1 P. M. The return train reaches Boston at 8.45.
THE next debate in English 6 will take place on Thursday, May 8. Subject, - Resolved, that Grouchy was responsible for the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo. All members of the University are invited to be present, and will be permitted to leave at any time during the debate, which begins at 1.30 P. M.
SEVERAL Freshmen who attended the Philosophical Club's lecture on "Idols of the Theatre," were very much disappointed at hearing nothing about Aimee or Lotta.
THE preliminary trial at which the twenty men who are to speak for the Boylston Prizes will be selected, takes places to-morrow, at 9 A. M. Candidates will speak in alphabetical order, Seniors coming first.
THE Philosophical Club held a meeting in 47 Grays, last Monday evening. Professor Bowen and A. Bronson Alcott were present, and the latter occupied the evening with one of his conversations.
A CANVASS of the departments at Washington shows that employed therein are sixty-one graduates of Yale, thirty-five of Princeton, thirty of Dartmouth, and twelve of Harvard.
PROFESSOR CHARLES S. BRADLEY has resigned the Bussey Professorship of the Law School, and will be succeeded by Mr. James Bass Ames, who graduated about ten years ago.
CO-EDUCATION does not seem to be a success at Cornell. At the present time there are but 403 students of both sexes in attendance, and of these 350 are young men, against about 700 when the experiment began.
THE uniform of the Lacrosse team will consist of a white and crimson cap, a white boating shirt with long sleeves, and a crimson star on the bosom; white knickerbocker, with a crimson welt, and crimson belt and stockings.
THE members of the Memorial Hall Dining Association consume daily 100 dozen eggs, 120 gallons of soup, 200 pounds of butter, 200 gallons of milk, 150 pounds of fish, 300 pounds of chicken, 400 pounds of mutton, and 1100 pounds of beef.
THE Board of Overseers at their last meeting consented to an amendment of the statutes of the University, providing that there shall be "four grades of the degree of Bachelor of Arts, two grades of the degree of Bachelor of Laws, three grades of the degree of Bachelor of Science and of the degree of Mining Engineer."

ANY one will be admitted to the instruction for women who presents herself at the Harvard University Preliminary Examination for Women, and passes satisfactorily in any eight of the following subjects: 1. English; 2. Physical Geography; 3. Botany or Physics; 4. Mathematics 1 (Arithmetic; Algebra, through equations of the first degree, including Proportions, Fractions, and Common Divisor); 5. Mathematics 2 (Algebra, through Quadratics; Plane Geometry); 6. History; 7. French; 8. German; 9. Latin; 10. Greek. This examination will be held in Cambridge, New York, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati, beginning Wednesday, May 28, 1879. The regular fee for the examination is $15. For this year a special examination will be held in Cambridge, during the last week in September, for those who are unable to be present at the regular time.
