It’s not a secret that Currier is often considered in the bottom of housing– it’s in the Quad, its dining hall is often compared to a “retirement home,” and it doesn’t have the classic Harvard look. However, Currier is a very unique house with a cohesive community, in fact, it has the smallest population of any house. Currier is also frequently ranked the highest among Harvard dining halls in terms of food quality. So when people clad in green swimsuits storm your dorm chanting “Fear the tree,” there may actually be a few reasons to get excited.

\r\nIf you get Currier, you’ve really lucked out in terms of housing. It consists of Tuchman, Bingham, Gilbert, and Daniels towers. Most people get single bedrooms connected by a sink room to another single, with a full single-gender bathroom in the hallway. However, some people luck out and get one of the coveted suites, with a bathroom and kitchen. Currier also has some of the most desired senior living arrangements. For example, Currier is well-known for its “Ten-Man,” a suite of ten single bedrooms and three full bathrooms surrounding the largest in-suite common room at Harvard. The Currier Ten-Man suite is an integral social space on campus, and has hosted many impressive soirees in the past. Currier House also has the “Solarium rooms,” which are three penthouse balcony suites atop Gilbert, Bingham, and Tuchman, each housing ten students in ten single bedrooms.

\r\nThe Currier House community is widely acknowledged as one of the strongest and most cohesive house communities on campus. The house’s mascot is a tree, showing how unique their community is. Given its location in the Quad as well as its small size, Currierites often build strong relationships with one another. Whether it’s partying in the Ten-Man suite, watching a movie in the Fishbowl, or jamming out in the dance studio, there are plenty of opportunities to hang out with fellow Currierites. Currier also has a relaxation room, for Currier residents only, where you are free to de-stress with a massage chair for up to 30 minutes.
\r\nThe Currier HoCo is also known for throwing awesome Stein Clubs and the famous Heaven and Hell Halloween party that everyone (read: freshmen) waits in line for.
\r\nCurrier also boasts a wide range of famous alumni, including Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, Caroline Kennedy, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Yo-Yo Ma. Gates and Ballmer actually met in Currier House, as they both lived on the same floor. At Currier, the two became close friends, a friendship that led Gates to recruit his Currier friend to join his software company as it was just starting. According to Gates during his 2007 commencement address at Harvard, he actually began one of his first software deals while making a call from his room in Currier House.

Some can find Currier overly secluded, given its geographic location in the Quad and its isolation from the other Quad houses as well. On the bright side though, the shuttle stops right in front of its entrance. But thanks to the Currier Ten-Man and other spacious accommodations in this house, Currier residents don’t need to travel far if they don’t want to.
